Britney Spears debuts shorter hair: 'Out with the old'

Britney Spears is heading into 2021 with a new 'do.

On Dec. 16, the pop star took to Instagram to debut shoulder-length hair.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CI3vW5xglzC/

"Cut my hair 💇🏼‍♀‍ !!!! You know what they say …. out with the old …. in with the new!!!!! Now let us pray 😉💋🙂✨ !!!!" she wrote alongside the image.

Commented her boyfriend, Sam Asghari, "I love it." He also added four heart emojis.

Overall, fans seemed to like the shorter look.

Britney, 39, later posted several more similar selfies. A couple fans — clearly those in the growing #FreeBritney camp — suggested that the pictures aren't actually Britney but rather a lookalike.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CI3zNQ4gyBY/

Fans have been skeptical of the pop star's Instagram feed for well over a year, as many believe she's not actually behind the account. Others think she's using Instagram to covertly send signals to her fans.

The fans' ire stems primarily from her conservatorship, which her father, Jamie Spears, has run since 2008. Last year, the "Toxic" singer fanned the #FreeBritney flames when she told a judge that Jamie committed her to a mental health facility against her will and also forced her to take drugs.

Matt Baron/Shutterstock

In an interview with CNN on Dec. 15, Jamie said he and Britney haven't spoken in four months and claimed her attorneys are behind the estrangement.

"I love my daughter and I miss her very much," he said. "When a family member needs special care and protection, families need to step up, as I have done for the last 12-plus years, to safeguard, protect and continue to love Britney unconditionally. I have and will continue to provide unwavering love and fierce protection against those with self-serving interests and those who seek to harm her or my family."

At a court hearing last month, Britney's attorney said the pop star was "afraid" of her father.

Johnny Knoxville, Steve O hospitalized during filming

Johnny Knoxville and Steve O have been hospitalized just two days into filming their latest stunt-filled movie.

John Sciulli/BEI/Shutterstock

Bam Margera said the men were injured while attempting a stunt in which they jumped on a treadmill while carrying band equipment.

"It's the second day of filming 'Jack—' already and Steve-O and Knoxville were hospitalized by jumping on a full-speed treadmill with band equipment," he said, noting that at least one of them was carrying a tuba.

It doesn't appear that either of the men were seriously injured.

Neither Johnny nor Steve O are strangers to getting hurt on the job. In fact, that's essentially how they made their living for more than a decade. In 2018's "Action Point," Johnny suffered several concussions, a broken hand, a left-eye fracture, a torn meniscus, lost teeth and whiplash.

"I definitely suffered the most injuries on one film," he told EW at the time.

AFF-USA/Shutterstock

Johnny was obviously a bit younger when suffering those injuries. It's unclear how his body will take these new filming injuries. In Johnny's eyes, being older and suffering injuries just makes things funnier for audiences.

Bam said he, too, has been injured on the set of the movie, as he recorded his video from a clinic.

"Rock'n'roll, oh yeah – I've got the scars too," he said.

Jim Smeal/BEI/Shutterstock

The film marks the first "Jack—" movie since 2010. It will also be the first without Ryan Dunn, who passed away in 2011 following a fiery auto accident just nine days before his 34th birthday. That tragedy was particularly hard on Bam, who admittedly spiraled and was in and out of rehab for several years.

The movie is set to be released in 2021.

Braunwyn Windham-Burke rips Kelly Dodd after mental health accusation

Braunwyn Windham-Burke is blasting Kelly Dodd after the latter claimed that the former was once placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold.

Gregory Pace/Shutterstock

In a recent series of tweets, Kelly took aim at her "The Real Housewives of Orange County" co-star. In one particular tweet that has since been deleted, Kelly wrote of Braunwyn, "I am not going to be blamed for her mental disorders, alcoholism, cheating, violence, & her children being depressed. She's been in a 5150 hold."

Gregory Pace/Shutterstock

Upon seeing that tweet, Braunwyn took to her Instagram Story to hit back.

"Good morning. So once again, I'm waking up, reading some stuff and honestly, there's certain people I work with that I'm shocked how much they get away with. How many lies they're allowed to tell — how it seems like nothing really happens," she said, according to Page Six. "I just want to clear something up. I've never been on a 5150 hold. That's a lie. Not that there's anything wrong with that."

She added, "You know, when I needed help 10 years ago, I checked myself in. So that's a different situation. But, 5150 holds are good for people who need them. There's no shame in that. There's no shame in mental health issues."

NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images

People can be put on a 5150 hold if authorities believe they're a danger to themselves or others. They usually last 72 hours.

As "Housewives" devotees know, Kelly and Braunwyn have rarely seen eye to eye. In fact, Kelly has accused Braunwyn, who recently came out as gay, of using alcoholism for a "storyline." (The mother of seven revealed her struggle with alcohol on the premiere episode of the current season of "RHOC.")

"If I was going to do something just for 'storyline' I would of picked something easier, being sober in this toxic environment ain't easy….to have someone diminish the struggle is low," Braunwyn tweeted last week. "I've been blessed to have support and have been working a program, if you need help it works."

Why Paul McCartney 'loves' wearing a face mask

Sir Paul McCartney is one of the most known people on the planet, but for the majority of 2020 it seems that no one can recognize him.

The face mask he wears amid the COVID-19 pandemic is giving him anonymity, and the former Beatle loves it because he can "go anywhere and do anything."

imageSPACE/Shutterstock

"We love the mask," he told Howard Stern. "I walked into work today wearing a mask, you know, looking at everyone. Looking them right in the eye. 'Hello. You don't know who this is. Do you know who I think I am?'"

While the obscurity is nice, Sir Paul knows that the year has been trying for far too many people.

"Even though it's been probably the most frightening year of our lives … 'cause you know, when there were other big crises like AIDS, the bird flu or SARS or whatever, they tended to happen to other people, but this thing's happening to us, no matter who you are or what you've been doing," he said. "In this most frightening year of our lives, I think we've got to kind of take some lessons from it, like, it's quite good to slow down, it's very good to be with your family, have time for people instead of just rushing around, and to me that was the silver lining."

Ever the optimist, Sir Paul added of the pandemic, "It's not over but it's something that's brought a lot of people together, so I hope that we've learned something from it."

Kat Von D blacks out tattoos from 'when I used to drink'

Kat Von D is erasing her past.

The former reality TV star revealed on Instagram that she recently covered up a slew of tattoos on her right arm with black ink, which is known in the tattoo world as a "blackout." Only one tattoo on her forearm remains: a portrait of her father, which she got many years ago.

Maja Smiejkowska/Shutterstock

The reason for covering up inked remnants of her past, she said, is because those particular tattoos represented a different time in her life — one which she has moved on from.

While thanking HoodeTattoos for the new ink, Kat wrote, "Feels so good to finally cover up so many of the tattoos I got back when I used to drink. Those tattoos meant nothing to me but landmarks in dark times."

"Now my arm looks so nice and clean, and the portrait of my Father stands out even more," she said.

The former "L.A. Ink" star noted that she tried to go a different route in removing the tattoos, but it never worked well.

"I actually did try lasering a few times and sadly they were just either too dark or had layers upon layers of tattoos that would have been too hard on my skin to remove," she told a fan. "But I also love the simplistic look of this so it was a win win."

Kat's forearm is now fully blacked out, aside from the picture of her dad.

In sharing videos of the cover-up, she had a note to all ink critics.

"Before anyone feels inspired to negatively criticize my tattoo, please remember that not everyone connects with the same things. I've been tattooing well over 2 decades and have seen so many tattoos in my lifetime that I personally would never get, yet feel happy for the wearer because it means something to them," she said. "I don't think there should be room for criticism when it comes to self expression, and a tattoo is personal to the person wearing it. So thank you ahead of time for being respectful. Much love!"

Kirk Cameron shuns COVID restrictions in mass Christmas carol gathering

Kirk Cameron defied California COVID guidelines twice recently while helping to gather hundreds of people for in-person Christmas caroling.

Kristin Callahan/Ace/Shutterstock

Over the past weekend, the "Growing Pains" star teamed up with an organization called Sing It Louder USA to protest California's stay-at-home orders, which have been implemented to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Kirk first partnered with the org on Dec. 6. He was among several hundred people who gathered in a mall parking lot to belt out some holiday classics. Almost no one was wearing a mask. On Dec. 13, Kirk and the org did the same thing again, and more people showed up. Again, judging by social media videos, few of the carolers were wearing masks.

"Christmas in Community!" the actor captioned a video from the second event. "Peaceful Protest in Song!"

California is in the midst of the largest coronavirus surge the state has seen. The stay-at-home order will remain in place until a state region's projected ICU capacity meets or exceeds 15 percent.

In a video from after the first event, an unapologetic Kirk said, "Have you ever sung Christmas carols by candlelight at a time where your state governor has prohibited you from doing that? … People had such a great time. It lifted our spirits. Over 500 people gathered in our local community for this peaceful protest."

According to TMZ, police were notified of the gatherings that defied state ordinance, but officers simply educated folks on the importance of mask-wearing and left.

No arrests were made.

Machine Gun Kelly to be reunited with stolen $200k car

Machine Gun Kelly is about to be riding in style again.

According to TMZ, the singer's purple Aston Martin was stolen last week, but Los Angeles police have since recovered it. The car is reportedly still nearly as good as new.

Kristina Bumphrey/Starpix/Shutterstock

"Flipping Out" star Jeff Lewis first told his listeners that MGK's pricey ride was stolen, having heard about the theft from the singer's next-door neighbor. Jeff previously lived next to MGK but recently sold his home to the new neighbor. According to Jeff, the new owner wanted to know if he was aware of any security cameras that may have captured the thief or thieves.

In the end, police didn't need security cameras to get the car back.

TMZ reports police were on routine patrol on Dec. 13 when they saw someone drive by in the car. Police were unable to chase the car at the time. However, they later searched the area and found the car abandoned in a home's driveway. The engine was still running and the car was in good shape.

Police weren't able to arrest the suspects, as they were gone by the time authorities arrived on the scene.

BACKGRID

Aston Martins are incredibly expensive — on average, they cost about $200,000, though prices can range upwards of more than one million dollars.

MGK's car is still in the impound lot, but Megan Fox's beau should be back behind the wheel very soon.

Cody Simpson qualifies for 2020 Olympic swimming trials

Cody Simpson could be the next great Olympic athlete.

The singer revealed on Instagram that he has qualified for the 2020 Olympic swimming trials.

Alongside a photo that shows him presumably celebrating outside of the pool, the Australian said, "I'd love to share this personal milestone and let you in on my current journey as an athlete that I've kept relatively low key until now."

"Growing up competing, and then inevitably having to cut my career short as 13 year old Australian champion when I was given an opportunity in music that I couldn't refuse," he wrote. "I have had the chance to experience and learn so much as a musician from touring around the world, releasing albums, performing as a leading man on Broadway, publishing a work of poetry, traveling with and speaking at the United Nations on environmental and oceanic matters and much more. For this I will be forever grateful."

Still, despite his fame and stardom, Cody said swimming was always tugging at his soul.

"Now almost exactly 10 years later, here I am once more. For years I had been fuelled by the silent fire in my stomach of returning to the sport of swimming, with the idea that 2020 would be the year I'd try training again," he said. "After only 5 months back in the water with my incredible coach @hawkebr, I was able to take out a win and secure a spot at next years Australian Olympic trials in the 100 fly."

He added, "It is my greatest ambition to expand the limit and perceived notion of what's possible for someone to achieve in a single lifetime, and I'm here to tell you can do absolutely ANYTHING if you are willing to work for it. I'm looking forward to seeing where this all takes me on the long road ahead!"

Over the past few months, Cody has shared several Instagram photos and videos from the pool.

Following his weekend posting, many of the pop star's famous pals congratulated him online, including Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps.

Naomi Campbell hits back at claims she takes Hazmat suits from hospitals

Naomi Campbell takes no chances when it comes to personal protective equipment, as photos have shown her donning a hazmat suit while traveling. Her choices, though, have some accusing her of taking supplies from the people who need them most.

MediaPunch/Shutterstock

In a chat with the Wall Street Journal, the model, 50, denies that she's "stealing" hazmat suits, as some have claimed. Instead, she acknowledged that she's signed up for a subscription service to buy the suits.

"There was one point when my subscription hadn't come because they'd run out, and I panicked, even though I wasn't going anywhere," she said.

With PPE still at a premium, many have said Naomi should donate her full-body suits to a hospital, rather than use them for private or first-class travel.

Of her critics, she argues, "They were acting like I was stealing supplies from the hospital, like sneaking in Manhattan and going to the hospitals and stealing their supply. That's how it felt when I was reading it."

"So I started answering back, saying, 'I got it on Amazon! I got it on Amazon!' I bought it fair and square on the internet," she maintains.

In May, as the coronavirus pandemic had settled in, Naomi posted a photo while flying. In the image she wore a full hazmat suit, as well as goggles, a face mask and a face shield.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CAQwRT1n-x5/?utm_source=ig_embed

The model has always been a cautious flier when it comes to germs. In a YouTube video posted in July 2019, she showed herself obsessively cleaning her first class pod on a plane, using disposable gloves and antibacterial wipes. "This is what I do on every plane I get on," she said of her routine, which she later admitted she's been doing for the past 15 to 17 years. "I do not care what people think of me. It's my health and it makes me feel better."

She added, "In all honesty, this is not a funny time; it's not a humorous time. I'm not doing this for laughs. This is how I feel comfortable traveling if I have to travel. If I do have to go, I'm going like this."

Teresa Giudice kisses boyfriend in NYC

Sealed with a kiss!

Teresa Giudice was first linked to businessman Luis "Louie" Ruelas in early November, and they are now taking their romance public.

Charles Sykes/Invision/AP/Shutterstock

Over the weekend, the coupled dined at the 230 Fifth Rooftop Bar in New York City. Afterward, they held hands and wore matching face masks while walking on the sidewalk. Teresa and Louie, though, took their masks off to share a kiss, all while paparazzi cameras happily snapped away.

On Nov. 9, Page Six reported that the "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star and the digital marketing executive were "very happy" in their new romance. Shortly after, a source said the couple is intentionally moving slowly.

"It's new," the source said. "They are taking things very slow. They are both happy. Right now it's very low key and casual. One step at a time."

At the time, the new duo had no plans to celebrate the holidays together as a blended family, as Teresa, a mother of four, and Louie, a father of two, were "not that far ahead yet planning wise."

The dating world is relatively new to the reality TV star, as she was married to Joe Giudice for 20 years. They separated after he was deported to Italy.

When he was recently asked about Teresa's dating life, Joe said, "What's she going to do, stay alone forever? That's not fair, as well. Look, if I would have got out and I would have been able to go home, who knows what would happen? Maybe we'd still be in the same situation, maybe not. I don't know. Things change after so many years."

Tyler Perry donates $100k to Breonna Taylor's boyfriend's legal defense fund

Filmmaker Tyler Perry's in the giving spirit again.

AFFI/Shutterstock

On Sunday, Dec. 13, the "Madea" creator made four separate contributions to a GoFundMe established as a legal defense fund for Kenneth Walker, the boyfriend of late ER technician, Breonna Taylor, a Black woman who was shot and killed by white police in her Louisville, Kentucky, home during a botched raid in March.

Walker is being sued by Jonathan Mattingly, one of the officers involved in the shooting, in a counterclaim to the suit Walker filed against the police department and local government. Mattingly claims he was struck in the thigh by the warning shot Walker fired as the officers barged in on a "no-knock warrant."

Walker's attorney, Steve Romines, has maintained Mattingly was more likely injured by one of the 32 shots fired by police, according to an October report from CNN. In his initial lawsuit against the police department and local government, Walker sought immunity from charges related to Mattingly's injury, citing Kentucky's "stand your ground" law for residents who, like Walker, are permitted to carry and use firearms in self-defense. Walker and neighbors who were home during the shooting have repeatedly said police never announced themselves before entering the home, allegedly to look for evidence Taylor's ex used her address to transport drugs.

Screenshots from Walker's GoFundMe published by TMZ on Sunday show Perry donated $10,000 twice within a matter of minutes to the fund. A few minutes later, he donated another $50,000, followed by a fourth donation of $30,000.

Stephen Lovekin/Shutterstock

According to the website's sources, Perry started funneling money into the GoFundMe after it stalled in earnings at just under $10,000. The producer's contributions kicked it above the $100,000 goal. As of Sunday afternoon, Walker's defense fund was up to $100,970.

Perry's charitable giving streak has been a trend over the course of the coronavirus pandemic and ongoing protests against systemic racism and police brutality this year. Over the summer, the producer offered to pay for the funeral of Rayshard Brooks, a Black man who was shot in the back by a white police officer after resisting arrest when the officer found him sleeping in his car in a Wendy's parking lot in Atlanta.

Perry later sent 1,000 gift cards for the Atlanta grocery store Kroger to local police, asking them to visit neighbors door-to-door and give the cards away in the interest of forging healthier connections between police and residents in his hometown.

Will Simon Cowell sue e-bike maker after near fatal crash?

Swindon Powertrain, the company that makes the Swind EB-01 e-bike that Simon Cowell was thrown from in August, could soon face a multi-million-dollar lawsuit from the "America's Got Talent" star, who broke his back in three places in the crash.

Kathy Hutchins/Shutterstock

That's according to British tab The Sun, which reported on Saturday, Dec. 12, that as Simon, 61, continues to recover from his accident and subsequent six-hour back surgery, he and his team are "weighing" their court options.

Their interest in suing appears to be connected in part to claims made by a former employee of Swindon Powertrain who says he expressed concern to higher-ups upon learning Simon was getting one of the bikes, which is known as the fastest e-bike in the world and can reach speeds of 60 to 80 mph. The bikes are currently banned on open roads in the U.K.

In a recent online review, biking mag MTBR deemed the EB-01 to essentially be "a motorcycle with about 60 times the power of legal e-bikes." The review added that the bikes "are dangerous machines."

Simon reportedly has other e-bikes but found his interest piqued by the EB-01 at a January motorshow. He later became one of the first buyers, according to The Sun.

"That thing is a death trap and should never have been sold to Simon without him being taught how to use it," the former employee reportedly told the outlet. He noted that the bikes come with three "maps" or settings. When it accelerates, the center of gravity reportedly changes.

If Simon started the 15,000-watt bike in the highest setting or even shifted into that setting too soon, the source said he easily could have been thrown from the bike.

"I said to my boss, 'Are you showing Simon how to use this?' He said he was just dropping it off and I said, 'Are you serious?'" The Sun's insider recalled.

ITV/Shutterstock

"They knew at the factory this was extremely dangerous and it was discussed," he added. "The only way to stop the bike flipping is to put your whole body over the front wheel."

The tab cites "experts" as saying Simon could seek as much as $10 million in damages towards the cost of his recovery and to offset any potential lost wages while he was out of commission. (Damages would also help defray the cost of the $112,000 veneers Simon reportedly got in the wake of the crash.)

One thing that may not work in his favor, however, is the mea culpa he issued on Twitter after the accident.

"Some good advice…," he tweeted in October. "If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time."

Eddie Van Halen's ashes to be scattered off Malibu coast: Report

Guitar legend Eddie Van Halen's final resting place will be off the coast of Malibu, Calif., according to TMZ.

Following the Van Halen co-founder's death on Oct. 6, his death certificate shows he was cremated and his ashes were sent to his son, musician Wolfgang Van Halen, who played bass in his dad's band for many years.

Michele Eve Sandberg/Shutterstock

Sources tell TMZ Wolfgang, 29, will honor Eddie's wish to have his ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean in Malibu.

The death certificate also lists Eddie's immediate cause of death as a stroke and cites other health issues, including skin cancer on his head and neck, TMZ reports.

Rick Scuteri/Invision/AP/Shutterstock

Known for his super-fast and agile finger tapping technique, his classical music influences and his athletic performances, Eddie's pioneering guitar work arguably changed the role of the instrument in rock bands for decades to come. But he was also a family man.

"He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I've shared with him on and off stage was a gift," Wolfgang wrote of his father on Instagram in October. "My heart is broken and I don't think I'll ever fully recover from this loss," he continued, adding, "I love you so much, Pop."

Eddie died surrounded by those he loved at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif., following a long battle with throat cancer that in the end, had spread to his brain and other organs.

He was 65.
