'CBS This Morning' host gives health update after burst appendix

"CBS This Morning" co-anchor Norah O'Donnell is feeling better despite being "down an organ" following emergency surgery over the weekend for a ruptured appendix.

On Monday morning, the veteran newswoman posted an Instagram photo from the hospital bed at the Medical University of South Carolina while giving her fans an update on her health.

"I am feeling much better and hope to return to NYC later this week if I feel well enough to fly. Thank you for all the kind texts and emails," she wrote. "I'm down an organ, but learned some valuable lessons this week."

One of the lessons, she detailed, is that "surgery is painful."

"I will never take a pain free day for granted again," she wrote, adding that we should all "be grateful for every day that you can move your body."

The morning host admitted that she wishes she reacted more swiftly to her recent health crisis.

"Listen to your body. If you are in pain, see a doctor. Don't wait 5 days like I did ignoring pain," she wrote. "Our doctors, nurses, and health care professionals are true life savers. I would not have gotten the excellent care I received without advice from my sister-surgeon, my parents, Dr. Tara Narula, Dr. Jon LaPook, Dr. Richard Beckerman, and the entire team at MUSC."

While being wheeled into surgery over the weekend, Norah posted a photo from the hospital to her Instagram Story.

"Not what we planned for Spring Break," she captioned the image.

On Saturday, Norah's husband, Geoff Tracy, shared a similar image of his wife working multiple telephones before surgery.

"Love of my life got a bit of spring break surgery yesterday. Laparoscopic appendectomy… truly amazing. She is doing great and tougher than ever. Much thanks to medical team at MUSC. They were awesome," he wrote. "By the way she played two hours of tennis with an appendicitis. Stronger than steel."

Kim Zolciak debuts brunette look, defends parenting style

Kim Zolciak-Biermann debuted a new 'do on television on Sunday night while clapping back at haters of her parenting style.

For years, the "Don't Be Tardy" star has rocked platinum blonde locks, but she switched things up while appearing on "Watch What Happens Live" over the weekend.

Charles Sykes/Bravo

The new look comes just two weeks after Kim experimented with darker hues, sharing the results on Instagram.

"Fun facts: I had dark hair almost black until I was about 15, that's when I started coloring it!" she captioned a selfie with daughter Brielle Biermann on March 11. "My mom is a hairdresser so I was always playing around with color. I went blonder and blonder and have never looked back! I don't miss the dark hair although I would take it over all my gray now any day."

On the Instagram Story for "Watch What Happens Live," Kim spoke about her drastically different look, joking that she's husband Kroy Biermann's "girlfriend."

A voice off-camera then cracked, "Kroy is so happy, he has a different wife every day."

Charles Sykes/Bravo

On Monday, Kim posted a photo with pal Brandonn St. Regis. In the caption, she asked her 3 million followers, "Do you like the dark hair or nah?"

Kim, of course, often speaks about her look — be it her hair or lip fillers. She also gushes about her children often. Many people, however, aren't exactly fans of her parenting style.

"I feel like I'm a really good mom," she told "WWHL" host Andy Cohen. "I mean, we all make mistakes and we all learn as we go, but I'm very proud of all of my children. I think I'm a really good mom, and nobody can really take that [away from me]."

Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter has sassy response to mom's Instagram

Just go ahead and consider Gwyneth Paltrow's 14-year-old daughter, Apple Martin, the Instagram posting police!

On Sunday, Gwyn shared posted a picture of her and her lookalike daughter going up a ski lift. She captioned the photo with emojis of an apple, skier and a heart. Apple, though, seemed to find nothing cute about the picture and posted a sassy (and very quintessentially teenager) response to her mom.

"Mom we have discussed this," the teen wrote. "You may not post anything without my consent."

The actress then responded to Apple, writing back, "You can't even see your face!."

Gwen does have a point, as Apple wears ski goggles and a helmet, essentially covering the upper portion of her face and head. She's also bundled up to her chin.

The photo, however, remains up, so Gwyn is clearly digging her Instagram heels in!

This isn't the first time that Apple, who Gwyn shares with her ex-husband Chris Martin, has appeared on the "Iron Man" star's Instagram.

Last fall, Gwyneth posted a selfie with her mini-me on "National Daughter's Day."

"It's like I conjured you from a dream, you make my life," Gwyneth told Apple.

Apple also made an appearance on her mom's Instagram in January to honor one of Apple's best friends.

Hailey Baldwin spends time with mother-in-law Pattie Mallette: Photo

The two most important women in Justin Bieber's life enjoyed a fun day out on March 24.

The pop star's wife, model Hailey Baldwin, and his mother, Pattie Mallette, were photographed spending time together in Laguna Beach, California — and the Biebs wasn't even there.

Stoianov-spot / BACKGRID

Hailey, 22, and her mother-in-law, 43, grabbed frozen yogurt at Active Culture then drove off in a black car with Hailey behind the wheel. Unfortunately, as paparazzi snapped away, Pattie slipped and fell as she got into the car, though she was unhurt.

Justin's petite mom wore a black outfit with heeled boots and a leather jacket for the quick outing and the model donned a silver tank dress, white sneakers and a tan jacket from her husband's Drew clothing line.

Pattie is a big fan of her new daughter-in-law. In January, she posted an Instagram selfie with Hailey, captioning it, "What a gift! 😍."

And on Thanksgiving Day 2018, Pattie tweeted some gushing birthday love to her son's wife along with a slew of emojis: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY @haileybaldwin !! I LOVE YOU!! I'm SO #THANKFUL to have you as a daughter!!!"

The Hailey-Pattie outing comes days after People magazine reported that Justin and his love, who officially became husband and wife at a New York City courthouse in September 2018 after a whirlwind engagement and courtship of just a few months, have delayed a bigger wedding for family and friends yet again.

"They will still have a wedding eventually, but this is not their focus right now," a source told People. "They haven't sent out any new save-the-dates. They will wait until Justin feels better and is excited about planning their wedding again."

Broadimage/REX/Shutterstock

Justin recently told fans that he's been working on his mental health after revealing a battle with depression in February. "He is very, very focused on getting better. He wants to be in a great place for his own and Hailey's sake. He is still confident that he will get there," the source told People. "Hailey isn't putting any pressure on him at all" to plan a big wedding ceremony because "she only wants him to focus on his mental health."

According to another insider, Hailey "is there for him in a way that you wouldn't expect from a newlywed. She understands him deeply and is 100 percent ready to help him. He realizes how blessed he is to have her."

Dr. Dre removes Instagram boasting about daughter's USC admittance

One day after Dr. Dre and his daughter, Truly, boasted about her acceptance into University of Southern California "all on her own," both father and daughter have taken down their posts.

James Gourley/REX/Shutterstock

The Instagram posts were seen as a direct shot at the college admissions scandal that has ensnarled Lori Loughlin, Felicity Huffman and 48 others.

"My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own. No jail time!!!' the rapper wrote alongside a photo of him and Truly posing with her certificate of admission.

Several celebs commented positively about the post.

On her Instagram Story, Truly said, "All my hard work paid off. I'm going to film school."

Many media outlets noted the Dre is essentially USC royalty, as his post came six years after he and record producer Jimmy Iovine made a $70 million donation to the university to establish the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.

Damian Dovarganes/AP/REX/Shutterstock

Since the college admissions scandal was unveiled, USC has been the most implicated school.

Prosecutors claim the scam involved parents cheating to get their children into prestigious colleges and universities.

According to reports, parents paid a California businessman to help get their children into their desired school. The man would eventually funnel the money to an SAT or ACT administrator or a college athletic coach, report said. In some cases a proctor would secretly correct incorrect answers on college admissions tests.

On Saturday, the teen posted an emotional selfie with her dad in the car.

"Miss him a little extra today," she captioned a snap, along with two yellow heart emojis.

Instagram

Sophie, 18, has opened up about the grieving process several times since her dad's death on March 4.

"A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast," she captioned a snap with the late "Beverly Hills, 90210" icon at day after he passed. "I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support. I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I

She continued, "I'm not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it's something you aren't ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it's all happening in the public eye. So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly."

Sophie has tried to put on a brave and happy face since her dad's unexpected death.

"I am going to laugh and smile and live my normal life," she wrote on Instagram after several trolls criticized her for continuing to live her life. "YES I am hurt and sad and crying and beside myself with what happened to my dad. It's the worst thing to ever happen in my life… But I'm not going to sit in my room and cry day in and day out until the internet has deemed it appropriate for me to do otherwise."

She added that Luke wouldn't want her or any real fans to stay sad forever.

"So to those of you shaming me for my language and my wardrobe and most disgustingly, my grieving process, do us both the favor and just unfollow," she said. "It's a waste of both of our time."

In the photos, Portman read picture books to the kids and posed for fun photos. Her celebrity friends loved her photos, with Reese Witherspoon commenting, "I love @childrensla" and Jennifer Garner writing, "Thank you for being out there xxx."

Earlier that day, a slew of celebrities — including Kaia Gerber, Charlotte McKinney and Rowan Blanchard — volunteered at Third Thursday, a special service and volunteer day, as part of the hospital's fourth annual Make March Matter campaign. The celebs did arts and crafts, played Uno, read to the patients, and created Play-Doh sculptures.

Children's charities have been of longtime importance to Portman. She has worked extensively with WE (formerly Free the Children), donating her gown from the "Black Swan" premiere to raise money, raising money through her Dior Lipstick partnership and traveling to Kenya to meet the girls who are in school because of the scholarship money she's raised. She has also worked with CHLA since 2008, and in 2017, wrote an article in InStyle about her experiences with the hospital.

"I participate in Make March Matter —a monthlong fund-raiser for patients receiving critical care—because I'm impressed by the programs and positive environment the hospital provides for so many kids and their families. It has created support systems that are social as well as medical, so when I volunteer, I'm able to play games like Uno, Scrabble, Wii Sports, and more with the kids to help lift their spirits," she wrote.

"I've connected with many patients over the years, but one child with cystic fibrosis stands out in my mind," she continued. "He had the soul of a poet—every time I visited him, he was so full of wisdom, joy, and life. It's horrible that he or any child should have to struggle. I'm happy to work with a fund-raiser that partners with local businesses to assist these families. When we're in a position to alleviate some suffering, I believe we should."

Michelle Pfeiffer just found her old Catwoman whip – Video

Michelle Pfeiffer has been reunited with a piece of cinematic nostalgia.

On Friday, the actress posted a video with an old friend: her whip from 1992's "Batman Returns."

"Look what I found," she said, holding up the weathered whip, adding that it "needs a little TLC."

Michelle, 60, famously starred as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman from the film, which also starred Michael Keaton and Danny Devito.

Michelle nearly recreated her character another time, it was revealed last year when writer John August said he pitched a "Batman" sequel based on Catwoman.

"Catwoman at Warners in 1998. Sequel with Michelle Pfeiffer returning. Producer excited," he tweeted. "After pitch, exec insisted it needed to be Sarah Michelle Gellar and involve hair-washing scene, then showed me 'Matrix' trailer."

John also shared several pictures from his movie pitch.

The Instagram purging comes amid her high-criticized romance with "Saturday Night Live" star Pete Davidson.

Since the actress began dating Pete, 25, her Instagram has been flooded with negative comments about her choice in men. On March 20, Kate hit back at "Joe Dirt" star David Spade, who tried to take a dig at her.

That day, she posted a picture of a cheetah cub in her lap. David replied, "You like them young! (Now don't fight back and roast me just quietly stew and take the hit)."

Pete, for the record, scrubbed his Instagram account in December 2018, shortly after his breakup with Ariana Grande.

"Apparently people have a crazy fascination with our age difference," he said. "But it doesn't really bother us. But then again, I'm new to this."

Report: Gayle King poised to sign 'multimillion dollar contract' with CBS

Gayle King is nearing a mega contract that will keep her at "CBS This Morning" for years to come, according to a new report.

The news veteran makes around $5.5 million a year in her current contract, but she's been looking for a massive raise. Page Six reported on Friday that she's likely going to get it, too, claiming she's "poised to sign a new multimillion-dollar contract."

"Everything has gone very quiet. Nothing will be done until Gayle has signed her contract. It looks likely that she's staying — but we don't know what the holdup is," a source told Page Six.

In addition to Gayle's contract, there have been rumors of Norah O'Donnell replacing Jeff Glor on "CBS Evening News" and moving the primetime show to Washington, DC, but all those discussions are on hold until Gayle's situation is figured out and finalized.

"Everyone is stressed — they want to know what's happening," the insider told Page Six.

Earlier this month, the New York City-based news outlet said that Gayle was looking to nearly triple her salary.

"Gayle is holding the show together, she wants George [Stephanopoulos] money — he got between $15 and $18 million to stay on at ABC," a source said.

CBS News president Susan Zirinsky is supposedly keen with doling out big bucks for Gayle, too.

The Daily Mail reported that the 64-year-old is likely to ink a deal paying her $12 million a year.

There have been reports over the past year that Gayle has had issues with the top network brass. She was apparently on the verge of leaving during the Charlie Rose and Les Moonves sexual misconduct scandals in 2017 and 2018. She was also allegedly livid after her favorite executive producer left last December.

The contract talks couldn't come at a better time for Gayle, as she's still fresh off the heels of her infamous R. Kelly interview, an interview that earned her high praise for keeping her composure as the singer angrily ranted about sexual allegations levied against him.

On March 7, the Associated Press asked Gayle if she was staying at CBS.

"Ooh, that's a good question," she said. "All I can say is I really love my job. And I think it's kind of foolish to predict the future."

John Travolta and Kelly Preston's 18-year-old daughter lives a private life, but she stepped out this week for the Bravo International Classical Music Awards at the Bolshoi Theatre in Russia.

The actor shared a pic of his beautiful and rarely seen daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, on Instagram.

"On our way to the Bravo classical Music Awards at the Bolshoi with my sister Ellen, daughter Ella, and sister Margaret," he wrote.

John's Instagram followers marveled at Ella.

"You daughter looks just like you, she really grew up to be a beautiful young woman," one fan said. Another added, "Your daughter is gorgeous!"

Helen Mirren also attended the event and shared a photo with Ella, who donned a black dress.

"My very dear fellow presenter at the Bravo Awards with his beautiful daughter," she captioned the photo, which she posted on Thursday morning.

Ella rarely attends events with her celebrity parents, but she has been photographed with them at movie premieres from time to time. Last year she and her 7-year-old brother, Benjamin, joined John and Kelly at the Cannes Film Festival.

Last month, John gushed to Closer Weekly about his adult daughter, saying, "She's so amazing, and so unlike what you think a teenager, the cliché of a teenager. She's different, and she's gracious, and she's lovely, she's well-mannered, and she's thoughtful, and it's authentic. It's very old school. She reminds me of an older movie star. Another era. So I'm very proud of her."
