Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the stars who found love, suffered heartbreak or experienced some other major event in their love lives in early January 2019, starting with one of our favorite longtime couples: On Dec. 23, Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus prompted speculation that they'd quietly tied the knot after pictures of them cutting what appeared to be a wedding cake and standing in front of letter balloons spelling out "Mr" and "Mrs" emerged on social media. On Dec. 26, the singer seemingly confirmed the wedding talk by posting several pictures from the big day, including a shot of herself (in a white Vivienne Westwood gown) and Liam (in a suit) embracing in front of an extravagant floral arrangement with a bouquet resting on the fireplace behind them. The following day, TMZ reported that the couple obtained a marriage license in Williamson County, Tennessee, on Dec. 18, five days before they wed at Miley's home outside of Nashville. Heidi Klum took to Instagram on Christmas Eve to announce that she and her boyfriend of less than a year, Tom Kaulitz, are engaged. "I SAID YES," she captioned a smiley selfie. Ironically, the supermodel addressed their relationship on the Jan. 2 episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which was taped before Christmas. After Ellen asked if marriage might be in the cards, Heidi said, "I've been married twice. … I still believe in love and marriage. I do. Even though I failed twice at it. I guess I'm not very good at it. … I found a great person, so let's see what happens." Indeed! Heidi also revealed that she reached out to Drake to apologize for sharing a story about how she ghosted him when he texted to ask her out in early 2018. "I said I'm sorry because I know it made a huge wave," she said. So how did Drake reply? With a single annoyed-looking emoji, she said.

HGTV star Christina El Moussa and "Wheeler Dealers" host Ant Anstead tied the knot at their home in Newport Beach, California, on Dec. 22. The winter wonderland-themed nuptials were part of an elaborate ruse pulled off by the bride and groom: They told their 70 wedding guests that they'd all be attending a local Christmas boat parade. Instead, there was a wedding. By Jan. 2, the "Flip or Flop" star had changed her name (but not her handle) to Christina Anstead on Instagram.

Kristen Stewart was spotted holding hands with wardrobe stylist Sara Dinkin in Los Angeles on Dec. 20. The duo were seen together again on Christmas Eve, signaling that whatever's going on between them is getting serious. The multiple outings also signaled that K-Stew's relationship of almost two years with Stella Maxwell had come to an end. Us Weekly reported on Dec. 21 that the actress and the Victoria's Secret model split "around a month ago." Said a source, "They stopped seeing eye to eye and were living very different lives." The insider added that time spent apart due to their careers "didn't help" things and that the pair "had issues" earlier this year, before Kristen went to Germany to shoot the upcoming "Charlie's Angels" reboot. "Stella and Kristen still share a ton of friends and are friendly with each other," the source concluded.
Forest Whitaker filed to divorce his wife of 22 years, Keisha Nash Whitaker, in Los Angeles on Dec. 27. According to TMZ, he listed irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and asked the court to terminate any spousal support. On Dec. 31, the webloid reported that Keisha filed a response to the actor's divorce petition asking for spousal support. (Their three daughters are all adults, so there will be no dispute over child support or custody.) In spite of the contradictory requests regarding spousal support, TMZ reports that the breakup is "super amicable" and that "both sides want to work out a formal property settlement agreement that will satisfy them." The pair reportedly do not have a prenup.
Apparently, the late-November report that Andrew Garfield and Rita Ora are an item isn't so crazy after all. The duo were photographed walking arm-in-arm in London on Dec. 23. (See the photo here.) Four days later, the singer was seen leaving the actor's London home early in the morning, indicating that she spent the night.
On Dec. 21, less than three weeks after Cardi B announced that she and Offset had called it quits, the "Bodak Yellow" rapper reunited with her estranged husband in Puerto Rico, where they shared an intimate-looking Jet Ski ride. According to TMZ, the Migos rapper hung out backstage while Cardi performed at the Convention Center in San Juan later that day. Following fan backlash over the reunion, Cardi took to Instagram Live to say that she only met up with her ex because she needed, ahem, some physical intimacy. She rang in the New Year with another Instagram Live in which she said that she's excited to see what happens with her love life in 2019. She went on to sing Offset's praises, recognizing him for all his help in shaping her career over the years, and said that she "would love to work things out" with him because he's "my best friend and my biggest supporter."
During an interview with Rolling Stone that hit the Internet on Dec. 20, Travis Scott said that he and Kylie Jenner will "get married soon." Said the rapper, "I just gotta sturdy up — I gotta propose in a fire way." He also dished on how they fell in love: "We was just two kids, [messing] around. Maybe, like, the first week, you don't know if it's real or a fling. Then the second week you're like, 'Whoa, I'm still talking to her, she's responding, I'm responding. We ain't run out of a thing to say.' … And it got to a point where I was like, 'I need her with me to operate. She's that one.'"
Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara tied the knot in the backyard of their home in Los Angeles on Dec. 22 — her 25th birthday. The bride reportedly donned a Berta gown and Badgley Mischka heels during the ceremony and changed into a lace suit by Rita Vineries and Aldo sneakers for the reception. A hundred guests were on hand for the nuptials, which took place almost exactly a year after the duo got engaged in late 2017.
Toni Braxton and Birdman, who spent 2018 planning to tie the knot, stoked rumors they'd called it quits by posting cryptic messages on their social media channels on Jan. 1. "Starting a new chapter isn't always an easy choice… but ALWAYS choose to be chosen. Cheers to a new year," the "Un-Break My Heart" singer captioned a photo of herself on Instagram. She also deleted every other photo she'd ever posted — as did Birdman, who shared a simple text post on his Instagram Story reading, "It's over…"
Robin Thicke proposed to April Love Geary, who's currently pregnant with their second child, on Christmas Eve. "YES YES 1000x YES 😭😭💍," the model captioned an Instagram slideshow depicting the proposal, which took place during a family dinner.
Sophia Thomalla was seen kissing German soccer player Loris Karius on a beach in Miami on Dec. 28, signaling that her relationship of nearly two years with Gavin Rossdale had come to an end. (The pair were photographed together again on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30.) The German model-actress and the Bush frontman just made their red carpet debut in early November.
Cassie took to Instagram on Dec. 29 to show that she's moved on from Diddy with personal trainer and bull rider Alex Fine. The singer shared a picture of two shots from a photo booth: one of the pair posing with her mother and the other of them kissing. It's one of only three posts currently on her Instagram page, which she recently scrubbed. Alex returned the favor on Jan. 1 by posting a sun-kissed selfie with Cassie on his own Instagram page. "'19," he captioned the pic, tagging the location as somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, Diddy took to his Instagram Story on Dec. 28 to share a photo of his ex-girlfriend of more than a decade soaking in a bubble bath. "I [heart emoji] @cassie," he wrote across the pic.
Brooklyn Beckham and his new girlfriend, model Hana Cross, are heating up quickly. The duo, who were first seen together leaving an afterparty for the British Fashion Awards in London on Dec. 11, went Instagram official on Dec. 17, when Brooklyn shared a photo of them flashing peace signs during a hike in Los Angeles, which he captioned with a single heart emoji. Hana also accompanied her beau to his family's New Year's Eve party, during which she spent time with his famous folks, Victoria Beckham and David Beckham. Brooklyn took to his Instagram Story to share a photo of himself and Hana sharing a NYE smooch, which he adorned with a text sticker reading, "I love you."
Terrence Howard and Mira Pak tied the knot in October 2013, separated in August 2014 and divorced in July 2015, but they never really quit each other. For example, in late September, the "Empire" star referred to Mira as his wife. Now they're one step closer to making their marriage official again: On Christmas, Terrence took to Instagram to reveal that he proposed to Mira for the second time, posting a slideshow of photos and videos showing off his love's new engagement bling and singing her praises. "We have an idea of how long we think life is, but we do know how short it can be," he said. "It took me 45 years to find you, honey. It took me 45 years to find you. But now that I have you in my 50th year, I will spend the rest of eternity at your side. And I pray that everybody finds that one that will complete them for all eternity because it means everything. I love you."
Here we go again. Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Jen Harley called it quits (for the umpteenth time) after fighting over the holidays, Us Weekly reported on Jan. 2. "Ronnie and Jen got into a fight on New Year's Eve. They broke up before New Year's Eve, got back together right before then and got in a big fight on Monday night," said a source. "They're currently broken up. But it's the same story every time: They are together, they fight, they break up and then get back together." Added the insider of the famously explosive pair, "They fight — a lot. They have a very volatile relationship. It's either great or the total opposite." The "Jersey Store" star also wiped all traces of his off-and-on love from his Instagram page, unfollowed her and "liked" a negative comment about her that one of his followers left on a photo that he posted of their daughter, Ariana. ("She is amazing. Hope she doesnt grow up to act like her mother," the fan wrote.)
Debby Ryan and Josh Dun, who've been dating off and on since 2013, took to Instagram on Dec. 23 to announce that they'd gotten engaged during a trip to New Zealand. "I found a tree house in the woods in New Zealand and proposed to my girl. She my dude for life. I love you Debby," the Twenty One Pilots rocker captioned a slideshow of photos depicting the proposal.
Jonathan Van Ness took to Instagram on Dec. 30 to announce that he and Wilco Froneman, with whom he first stepped out publicly in September, called it quits. After quoting Ariana Grande's breakup anthem "thank u, next," he used the hashtag "cheatersneverprosper" — basically implying that Wilco had been unfaithful — to caption a shirtless photo of himself. Later, the "Queer Eye" star updated the caption by deleting the hashtag and adding a few words in defense of his ex: "Please don't go in on Wilco, he doesn't need the anger & I don't want to see him suffer so just know I'm all good & sometimes people break up — Love you all so much," he wrote. Jonathan also addressed the breakup (and the subsequent hashtag drama) on his Instagram Story: "I should've sat with myself a bit longer before I posted my most recent post," he wrote. "Wilco is a good person & sometimes things don't work out. Please don't attack him on his page. Just let us move on, heal and enjoy your gorgeous New Year's celebration. Your girl Jonathan is just fine. Biggest hug." Wilco addressed the breakup on Instagram as well: "Not only did Jonathan van Ness give me the best moments of 2018, but undoubtedly the best moments of my life. I will always love him and cherish every moment we shared. I encourage everyone to continue to send him love, no one deserves anything less," he captioned a Dec. 30 photo of himself ice skating with the Netflix star. Then on Jan. 1, he addressed the cheating rumors: "These are my words, not a lyric from a song. As I walk into 2019 with eyes wide open, I know I can move forward with honesty and clarity… Things end for a reason and I am moving forward with my head held high knowing the truth in spite of the bullying and accusations that come as a result of a rash post, the damage of which can't be undone. I am hurt, but healing and want to state for the record that I was never unfaithful to Jonathan. Our breakup happened as a result of circumstances that I don't fully understand, nor can explain but I enter 2019 with my feet planted firmly on the ground with a positive attitude and intention to make this year the best ever… much love and gratitude to all that reached out with compassion and love," he captioned a photo of himself and his dog. The breakup apparently happened sometime after Dec. 22, when Wilco wrote that it was "time to go love my man now" in the caption of a slideshow of photos from a vacation with friends in Utah.
Shannon Beador and Scot Matteson, who were first linked in July, have called it quits, Radar Online reported on Dec. 26. "Their romance started to cool off after this fall," said a source. "Shannon was not ready to be tied down to Scot and she ended the relationship on amicable terms several weeks ago." According to the insider, the contentious divorce between the star of "The Real Housewives of Orange County" and her former husband, David Beador, is partially to blame for her recent breakup: "Honestly, her divorce with David is just too much for anyone to handle," said the source. "She does not want to be with anyone serious right now and knows that she can't really move forward or get too involved with anyone until her divorce is finalized."
Petra Nemcova and investment banker Alejandro Grimaldi, who got engaged during the summer of 2017, have called it quits, Page Six reported on Dec. 30. "It's a civil breakup," said a source, adding that the former couple are "staying friends." The Czech model, who's been engaged twice before, has never been married.
Michael Fishman's wife of nearly two decades, Jennifer Briner, filed documents for legal separation on Dec. 27. According to TMZ, the pair (pictured in 2003) want joint physical and legal custody of their teenage daughter, and they plan to work on dividing their assets in private. The "Roseanne" star told TMZ that the breakup is amicable, that he and his ex went to court to file the divorce paperwork together (along with their two kids) and that they've actually been in the process of legally separating since June 2017. Things reportedly hit a speedbump when ABC abruptly canceled "Roseanne" in the wake of a Twitter scandal involving star Roseanne Barr, and Michael suddenly found himself out of work — until ABC rebranded "Roseanne" as "The Conners" in late 2018. The former child star explained to TMZ that he and Jennifer are legally separating instead of divorcing because he wants to keep her on his health insurance for as long as possible: "Among the reasons for not getting a regular divorce is the shared desire to keep Jenny covered by my health insurance, and allow to slowly unfold our 20 years together in a way mutually beneficial for our family, particularly on behalf of our children," he said. According to TMZ, Michael wouldn't say what led to the breakup or whether or not he and his estranged missus will ever officially divorce.
Michael Ray proposed to fellow singer Carly Pearce in Mexico on Dec. 19, he announced on Instagram three days later. "Dec 19,2018 My life forever changed for the better. I got down on one knee in one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and looked into the eyes of the most beautiful soul I have ever known and asked her to be my wife!! The duo seemingly confirmed they're an item by packing on the PDA during Trigga's New Year's Eve gig at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco on Dec. 31. On Jan. 1, TMZ published video of the pair looking extremely boo'd up as the 34-year-old singer performed with the 21-year-old beauty's arms rapped around him.
Olivia Culpo and Danny Amendola sparked rumors that they'd reconciled (again) by posting nearly identical videos of fireworks displays on their Instagram Stories on New Year's Eve, two months after they called it quits for the second time amid reports that he cheated. Both videos were taken at strikingly similar-looking beach settings. Danny, by the way, lives in Miami, where he plays for the Dolphins.
They're Instagram official! … Kinda. … On Dec. 29, a Demi Lovato fan account tweeted a video of the singer-actress sharing a sweet smooch with her rumored beau, Henry Levy, while riding in a private plane. The clothing designer reportedly shared the clip on his Instagram Story, which is private. A few days later, the duo were spotted stepping out for a New Year's dinner in Aspen.
Speaking of going Instagram official… Bethenny Frankel and her boyfriend of a few months, Paul Bernon, went Instagram official on Christmas. "Bye bye Dominican Republic. What a beautiful country of beautiful people. #healingretreat #feliznavidad," she captioned a slideshow of two photos, including this selfie.
Kendall Jenner and her on-again beau, Ben Simmons, were photographed grocery shopping in Philadelphia on Dec. 21, indicating that their relationship is getting increasingly serious. "They both looked very casual and relaxed, as if they were about to have a night in," a witness told DailyMail.com. On New Year's Day, the model sat courtside as the basketball star's team, the Philadelphia 76ers, took on the Los Angeles Clippers in L.A. She's been a fixture at his games since November.
Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner, who tied the knot in October, spent the last week of December honeymooning in South Africa, where they got up close and personal with some wild animals on safari. Thora Birch tied the knot at San Francisco City Hall on Dec. 21, she announced on Twitter. "It's done! I'm a married woman now… This is not the official photo but it's my thank you to all my fans for their positive energy! I felt it every second!! 💃🏼🥳✨💗💗 party time. Hehe," she captioned a photo of herself and her new husband, whose identity she's yet to publicly reveal.
Jack Osbourne and Lisa Stelly filed their final divorce paperwork, The Blast reported on Dec. 21, noting that the duo were able to reach an agreement regarding child custody and support. They'll reportedly share joint custody of their three daughters, with the reality star paying a "very large" amount of child support.
In other Jack Osbourne news, Radar Online reported on Jan. 2 that the reality star has been secretly dating street artist Meg Zany since September. The new couple were photographed together in Los Angeles on Dec. 28.
YouTube star Colleen Ballinger (of Miranda Sings fame) revealed in a Dec. 29 vlog that she secretly married actor Erik Stocklin in 2018. "This year I got pregnant and engaged and married, all in the same year. Yeah, we got married. Woops! Forgot to tell you that one," she said. The duo, who connected while co-starring on her short-lived Netflix series "Haters Back Off," welcomed son Flynn Timothy on Dec. 10.
Nicki Minaj's former longtime love Safaree Samuels proposed to "Love & Hip Hop" star Erica Mena at her home in Atlanta on Christmas Eve. According to TMZ, he popped the question with a custom Trax NYC-designed sparkler worth $175K. The extravagant proposal included a fireworks display, a live performance by R&B group 112, thousands of rose petals and hundreds of candles. The duo, who were first linked in late November, have known each other for more than a decade, TMZ reported on Dec. 28, adding that Safaree asked Erica's mother and son for permission before he proposed.
"FBI" star Missy Peregrym married actor Tom Oakley in Los Angeles on Dec. 30, People magazine confirmed on Jan. 1 after the actress alluded to their nuptials on Instagram by posting photos of herself wearing a white dress while posing with her tuxedo-clad beau. She was previously married to Zachary Levi for less than a year in 2014 and 2015.
Waka Flocka Fame and wife Tammy Rivera — who tied the knot in 2014 and separated in 2016 over his infidelity issues — are renewing their wedding vows in Mexico the week of Jan. 18. Amy Jackson and George Panayiotou, the son of a British business tycoon, got engaged on New Year's Day, the "Supergirl" actress announced on Instagram. "1st January 2019 – The start of our new adventure in life 🌈 ✨ I love you. Thankyou for making me the happiest girl in the world," she captioned a photo of herself and her beau embracing while showing off her engagement bling in Zambia, where they'd been vacationing. The duo have been an item for about a year.
Radar Online reported on Dec. 21 that Michael Lockwood — who's been struggling to legally end his marriage to Lisa Mary Presley for years now — is engaged to hairstylist Stephanie Hobgood, to whom he was first linked in early 2017. He reportedly popped the question with his grandmother's diamond ring from the '50s during dinner at an Italian restaurant in Los Angeles. "He never expected to find love at a time like this, but Stephanie has stood by him every step of the way and they are crazy about each other," said a source. "Michael is very traditional and wrote a letter to her father to ask for her hand in marriage. The family loves him, and gave their blessing." Added the insider, "They have already discussed the wedding details. They are so excited! … Michael just wants this nightmare with Lisa to be over and to get on with his life, he wishes she would meet someone else and do the same." Said a second source, "Some people advised [Stephanie] not to get involved with him, but she went with her gut and hasn't regretted it for a second despite the obstacles they have faced. She has spent time with [his daughters] and adores them, she is very understanding about the situation. It's been hell for them both but they are a strong unit. Everyone hopes Lisa will come to her senses and stop stalling over the divorce, they want her to finally let him go."
Former ESPN host Jemele Hill took to Instagram on Dec. 27 to announce that she and Ian Wallace got engaged. "I've called this my year of transition. I left a job, started a new job, moved to a new city and now … I'm engaged to the love of my life. I'm overjoyed and immensely blessed," she captioned a slideshow of photos depicting the proposal, as well as her engagement bling.
On the Dec. 20 episode of Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, Josh Duhamel said that when it comes to his love life, his priority is finding a woman with whom he can expand his family. "I'm not 30 years old anymore. I'm 45. I want to have more kids in the next few years," he said. "So it's more about finding someone young enough to have kids. It's not as if I'm out there trying to just [hook up with] anything. That's not who I am. I'm trying to find a girl that I can be with and have a family with." He also opened up about ex-wife Fergie, with whom he shares son Axl. "Fergie and I had a great relationship. I love that girl and I always will," he said. "Unfortunately, we didn't work. But I will always have her back and she is the mother of my baby."
In a Dec. 21 Instagram post, Drew Barrymore reflected on the collapse of her marriage to Will Kopelman, the father of her two daughters, in early 2016. "Once upon a time… I remember reading an article that said I had gotten my happy ending after all. Looking at this picture, it sure looks that way. Here's a first! John Cena is done talking about his relationship with his former fiancée, Nikki Bella. Page Six reported that a rep for the wrestler-actor warned reporters during a Dec. 20 event — a promotional stop for "Bumblebee" — that he would not answer any questions regarding his ex, a reality star to whom he got engaged in front of thousands of people during Wrestlemania 33.
On Jan. 2, Julia Michaels took to her Instagram Story to announce her New Year's resolution: "No more dating narcissists." She went on to post several screenshots from an article about what it's like to date a narcissist. (The "Issues" singer was linked to singer Lauv in late 2018 after they collaborated on his song "There's No Way," though they maintained in September that they're just friends.) Julia's pal Hailee Steinfeld raised eyebrows when she shared each of the singer's posts on her own Instagram Story, sparking questions about the nature of her late-2018 breakup from Niall Horan after about a year of coupledom. "God bless you @juliamichaels. Preach it," added the "Bumblebee" actress.
Bebe Rexha made headlines in late December when she took to her Instagram Story to blast an unnamed football player for trying his luck with her even though he's a married father of three. After sharing a screenshot of their texts — in which she told him that he could see her on TV or from the audience at one of her concerts — she wrote, "Do you ever have that one guy that always comes in and out of your life. And they are cheaters and waste your Time. You're married and have three kids. Be a good role model and play your sports and leave me the f— alone. Don't be texting me 'hey friend' especially if you're a married man. Sorry. That s— don't fly with me." She then added, "Go back to playing football. If only you guys knew."
During an interview with Page Six that hit the Internet on Dec. 19, Danielle Staub's estranged husband, Marty Caffrey, blamed the dissolution of their marriage on "The Real Housewives of New Jersey." Marty claims that "things were going extremely well between us" before Danielle returned to the Bravo show after a five-season hiatus. "As we approached the wedding, and the filming of Season 9 began, she changed. Instead of our relationship, it became more about the cameras. She began to think she was more important than everybody else," he said. "Filming the wedding appears to be the main thing that ruined us. It became more about the cameras, the show, the party, the attention she was getting and very little about the ceremony and the marriage and what we were really there for.
